What is music to you?

I want to know. For me, music is what fill the empty moments and thoughts with something of substance that makes life worth living. Seeing a live performance of a song that speaks to you, or hearing a song pop on the radio at just the right time saying just the right thing, is magic!

I've been in a funk phase for a bit, but still loving everything from Count Basie to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. I can't imagine life without this wondrous source of happiness. This is a shout out to all those that put their thoughts, feelings, prayers, personalities, and love into a form we can all hear, thank you, thank you, thank you! Something counter beautiful.

Macklemore - The End

Obsession thy name is Macklemore's The End. This song gives me chills and in the right moments has made me cry. I'm not sure what's going on with the Seattle hip hop scene, Fice, dyme def, and champagne champagne, to name a few, but there's something in the air/water/lack of sun? inspiring some pretty memorable sounds. The end is one of those song that so perfectly captures a feeling I think many people can relate to with beautiful beats and touching lyrics.

Broken Social Scene is Magic!

They just are. They make me wish I had some kind of musical talent that would justify starting a 12 person band. They make music that makes me remeber moments from my future. They sing songs about spit and some how make it the sexy song you've ever heard. They're so good, musician's that are already in doing very well for themselves come join this band. I could go on, but I won't because all I want to do right now is listen to broken social scene!

Funk and Soul, no! Funk. Soul.

Why would you combine the two? They are totally different styles and vibes. Funk is freaky and fun like getting it on with a strangers at a concert in the dessert, while Soul is meaningful and moving like spooning on the couch with the one you marry. My guess is they were mashed together by the same person who named Red onions (even though they're purple) and Eggcreams (that have no egg in them).

Listen to some funk and listen to some soul and tell me if they sound anything alike:

You can't keep the funk down!

So, if you've read my earlier blog "If KEXP was food I'd be Obese" you'd know of my love for KEXP 90.3. And you'd also probably be Danielle since I think you're the only one who might read this, ha thanks love you! So, I find it very hard and sad to say there is one thing I can find fault in with this beloved station.
As of April 2010 it does not have a Funk show.....WHY?!?! Is what I asked, and a Facebook fan page to petition them to get one is what I did. KEXP 90.3 Please get a Funk Show! for now will just be a plea to the station. In the future I hope this will be adopted by the station and renamed "_(Fill in the Funk Show Name Here)_" since it will A: already have Funk followers and B: possibly crate a side job for me to do to stretch my KEXP love!

Please become a fan and spread the word!

Just 'cause

I really need to rethink how I go about blogging. Writing does not come naturally to me, but I want an outlet for the one thing in life I can use the term "Passionate" for when describing how I feel about it. So, for my love of music I hope anyone reading this will indulge me and maybe even enjoy a thing or two posted here.

I shall now attempt to blog at least 3 days a week in hopes of building my music writing muscle! Here we go! And yes me being committed to something is 3 days a week max! And yes, I like to assume I know what you’re thinking when you read this.

Blog #7

The Power Station's "Some like it Hot" has been stuck in my head all morning. I watched the video on Youtube for the first time. Two thing I have to note: 1, Robert Palmer looks like he's going to puke when he sings & 2, The Armpit shaving was totally uncalled for.

This song is like watching your parents dance. There are moments that you see a glimpse of something cool, but in the end you just feel kind of weird and embarrassed for everyone involved.

And yes I will use a lot of analogies.
